When your air conditioner is not working well, it usually means that you need an air conditioning repair. Check the condition of the air conditioner before calling the technician. If you find that there is a problem that you cannot handle, then call the repairman.
Start the air conditioner troubleshooting with the thermostat. Make sure that it is on “cool.” It also has to set lower than the actual room temperature. These are quite obvious things, but sometimes people do not consider them and call for an emergency ac repair. This can be a costly choice.
Here are five signs that your air conditioner needs to be repaired by a real professional:
1.No air coming out of the floor or ceiling registers
In case there is no air coming out, you need to check if the fan on the outside unit works. If it is not, then check whether the furnace/air handler and the air conditioner are on.
2.The condensate pump reservoir is full.
When this reservoir gets full, a limit switch usually stops the air conditioner from working. You will need to repair or replace the pump. In such a case, you should use a residential ac repair technician.
3.The fan on the outside unit does not blow out hot air
If the blower does not work but the fan outside does, then you need a technician to fix this issue. The problem is probably in the blower motor, the run capacitor, or the furnace/air handler control board.
4.The compressor starts, but the fan does not work.
If this happens, the fan motor is probably out of order. You will have to call a technician to fix it.
5.There is ice on the lines connecting the indoor and outdoor units or water around the furnace.
You need to see whether there is frost or ice around the units. You might also find some on the copper lines going outside. If you do, then shut down the outside unit and leave it like this for two hours. The blower should be working at this time in order for the ice to melt. If the ice remains, you should use AC repair services.
